Pro Wrestling: Ten Ways Tony Khan Can Improve AEW

Hello Divas! It's your favorite blogger checking in with the first blog of the new year. This time we are blogging from the tired and true laptop from freshman year in college circa 2009. Said laptop has survived college plus three moves and cats. Keys are beginning to stick and while this is outdated by many standards it still works. Then again if you read a previous entry you would see I am responsible for breaking my other laptop due to a moment of anxiety.

On we go with today's topic. Please bear with me as I don't have a comma key on this device. I'm grateful to have a device which to type and run a business so at least this laptop works. It could be worse by having to do everything via tablet.

Speaking of money I wish I had Khan money. Then I could by a new laptop.

And speaking of Khan's let's talk Tony Khan and the fact that some in the IWC are comparing him to Eric Bischoff's handling of WCW. Ted Turner gave Bischoff a pile of money and minimal restrictions. With the signing of such stars as Hogan Hall and Nash plus other names what Bischoff did worked yet also ruined WCW as a whole.

Some are saying that Tony Khan is ruining AEW. From overspending with a stacked roster to poor creative decisions with bad storylines and the ever present talking both to media combined with an overuse of social media Khan has been compared to TNA's Dixie Carter. The fact is Tony Khan appears to be an immature wrestling owner. A few weeks ago I discussed this topic here on the blog for the reason that he doesn't appear to be serious about AEW. When you aren't serious about a business or a goal that is a failure and there is little to no improvement on either. You can read that article https://thedivasteaching.blogspot.com/2021/12/tony-khan-needs-to-grow-up-if-he-wants.html

To close that blog I asked the question about where Tony Khan wanted to be with AEW in five years. I even tweeted said article which got me compliments (thanks everyone who liked it) and of course he didn't respond. He can tweet the most inappropriate things such as Mox in rehab and how great his ratings are plus the recent comments about Big Swole but he can't respond to the truth.

Right now AEW is improving but not really improving. Here are ten ways I feel AEW can improve:

10. Revamp the creative team

Who in the hell is on the AEW creative team? With the uniqueness of people like Darby Allin Britt Baker plus Jungle Boy and MJF the characters in AEW make it interesting. Let's see some better storylines. What made wrestling so great years ago was the unpredictability factor. While AEW has given us that to some degree we want more. Give us more unpredictable storylines that command our attention.

9. Move Dynamite to Tuesday and Rampage to Thursday.

I have priorities on Wednesday which is Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise with airs the same night as Dynamite plus A Million Little Things on ABC. Could Dynamite move to Tuesday nights or does it compete with the NBA? (if anyone knows this answer let me know) Moving Dynamite may help ratings it may not. Thy Great One Mr. Tito mentioned the low ratings for Rampage on Fridays as Fridays are a day for people to get out and do things after a long work week. I agree with him as he feels that Rampage being on Friday is ruining the ratings. Therefore a move to Thursday may help boost the program. Friday nights for me consist of early bed time if I have to work the next day or hanging out with pals if I am off the following day. The last thing I am doing is watching wrestling on Friday simply because I am tired at the end of the week. If that is my Friday night you can guess that others are doing other things instead of watching wrestling.

8. Demote the Bucks and Omega as EVPs.

With the exception of Cody and Dustin who grew up in the business the Bucks and Omega don't deserve their titles. What knowledge do they have of the business? What do they contribute to the product? Just because they are friends with Khan that doesn't make the qualified. Cody and Dustin know this business as they have been in it since birth and are legacies. Bucks and Omega are guys with knowledge and friendship. Friendship and business do not mix and can have bad results.

7. Utilize backstage veterans as EVPs and members of creative using their guidance and direction to create a successful product.

Over three hundred years combined with the veterans backstage. Three hundred years. And the Bucks with Omega are in charge. This explains it all. If you watch AEW you get what I'm saying here. The veterans know the business. End of story.

6.Go back to TNT and stay there.

Last time I watched TBS for wrestling was the early-mid eighties and for Clash Of the Champions. Wrestling belongs on TNT.

5. Budget your money carefully; hire those who bring something to the landscape.

There was a recent post on Twitter about free agents asking us if we were in charge of AEW who would we sign? My picks from said list were Keith Lee The Briscoes JoMo and Strowman.

Not everyone needs to be signed to AEW. Just the people who can add something. That's like me accepting nannies into my nanny agency with little experience to get a placement. If I did that I'd be risking my reputation because I don't know how they would be as a nanny. Same applies here. Too many people on the roster means more paychecks and a risk of some losing jobs because there are too many people to begin with.

Keith Lee could preach about shit and I would listen. The man adds raw power and needs to be in AEW like yesterday. The Briscoes could add an edge to AEW and reignite a rivalry with the Bucks plus continue the feud with FTR.

See what I mean about adding something to the landscape?

4. Create an angle that really gets attention.

In May 1996 Scott Hall appeared on Monday Nitro. Nobody knew at the time why he was there. Weeks later Kevin Nash appeared and nobody knew why he was there. Eventually Hogan turned heel at Bash at the Beach 1996 for the first time since the eighties and everyone had to see what was happening. The NWO was born and created must see television. Sting in the rafters added to the mix of eye catching storylines which in turn boosted ratings. AEW has eleven backstage veterans all of whom wrestled. JR is on commentary with Schiavone. Put them together and have them come up with the storyline that recreates WCW circa 1996.

3. Stop giving top matches away for free.

Page-Danielson on television for free? What is wrong with you?!? This match belongs on a pay-per-view. The stuff with Wardlow powerbombing jobbers is what you should be doing. Giving top matches away for free doesn't really do anything but building the story and giving the match away for cost is a payoff the to storyline.

2. Turn Punk heel.

In June 2011 Punk sat down unscripted and delivered the promo to end all promos. The Pipebomb was a promo ahead of its time where he cut down the McMahons and give his honest opinion of the product at the time along with the people behind the product. Sadly two and half years later he walked away from pro wrestling. Create the Pipebomb part 2 and turn the man heel. If you don't understand go back and watch Punk's heel work. He's better as a heel compared to a face.

and the number one thing Tony Khan can do to improve AEW:

1. Get off social media. Period.

" 'If you want to be the man you've got to beat the man' ".  How many times did Ric Flair utter these words as a heel. Truer words have never been spoken. Tony Khan wants to beat WWE yet he constantly talks about WWE through his character's promos and can't keep his big mouth shut. Does Vince McMahon talk about AEW through his character's promos and does he mention every little thing on social media? No. Tony Khan needs to hire someone to do his talking for him and stay out of the public eye before he says something he'll regret if he hasn't done so already. \

And there you have it. My top ten ways to improve AEW. Let's see what happens and where AEW is in one year.

With my old laptop and love
